Sailing Trip to the Aeolian Islands

LEARN ITALIAN  ON  BOARD  WHILE  DISCOVERING  EASTERN  SICILY  &  THE  VOLCANIC  ISLANDS  ARCHIPELAGO

We set sail to delight in the timeless beauty of the rugged and volcanic landscapes, to savour the unique and peculiar characteristics of each island in this UNESCO listed archipelago.  Rising from the 200 km ridge in the Tyrrhenian sea between Mt Etna and Mt Vesuvius, the Aeolian Islands offer an authentic manifestation of Mediterranean nature and culture.

We embark from Taormina at the foot of Mt. Etna, we dig our toes in the obsidian and pumice stone beaches of Lipari, we fully unwind in the pristine nature of Salina, we unleash our sense of adventure as we conquer the crater of Vulcano, we stare in awe at the eruptions on Stromboli and we chill in the vibrant nightlife of Panarea to before returning to the peaceful island of Ortigia in Siracusa.

In many ways, sailing is not unlike learning a language: the motivation of the language passionate is the wind filling the sails, the mind of the proficient learner is clear and calm as open waters for cruising and friendly communication is essential in the classroom as it is on the decks.  So we decided to bring the classroom to the decks!

Hoppet is a 2 mast schooner, built in Estonia in 1925-26 and fully renovated in 2012. A fine example of the Estonian-Swedish craftsmanship, honouring their sea culture and history. It belongs to the Society of Estonian Historical Ships.

Almost 30 metres in length and 6.5 metres in width (and an astonishing 240 square metres in sail area), Hoppet is equipped with all mod cons:  modern navigation systems, power supplies, cold and warm water, a gas stove, oven and a dish washer. Food is kept in refrigerator or deepfreeze.

Hoppet is ideal for island hopping!

Life on Hoppet is an authentic and unique sailing experience.

Hoppet’s guests are hosted in  7 comfortable double cabins, with traditional wooden furniture; there are separate restrooms for ladies and gents and a shower room.  The galley and below deck dining area are spacious and available to all guests on board.

The chef receives 5-star reviews from all guests for his delicious fish dishes and Mediterranean cuisine. Meals, both above and below deck, are the moments when all guests come together to share stories and enjoy the truly convivial experience.

The decks offer plenty of space for sun bathing, relaxing and even studying: Italian language lessons are held in shaded areas on the decks, while enjoying the breath-taking coastal views!
